Utopia Must Fall from Pixeljam is pretty magnificent, it’s a true quality arcade shoot ’em up that I thoroughly enjoy that just got a nice big upgrade.
I feel like it needs a lot more eyes on it, a game that deserves more purchases and players.
It’s such a glorious retro-modern mixture.
You have to defend humanity’s last surviving metropolis from mysterious aliens in a base-defence arcade shooter with roguelite upgrade mechanics and progression.
Utopia Must Fall is like the ultimate version of Defender /Space Invaders meets Asteroids.
It’s one heck of a light show once you get into it – and it really can be challenging, it will force your brain into wanting one more run before you go to bed.
Covered on GamingOnLinux back in May 2025, it’s only gotten better since then.
A new update for it landed June 4th, which expanded the upgrade system to give you even more choices as you blast through it.

As a testament to just how good it is, I only loaded it up initially to ensure it continued working in Proton and for a quick up to date screenshot and ended up blasting through over an hour in it again.
It’s just delicious.
A must-have for fans of any arcade shooters that want something a bit more.
